Chemsex Presentations
Chemsex is something many people in Dublin carry quietly. It’s an emerging and complex phenomenon, particularly within gay, bisexual, and men who have sex with men communities. It deserves to be approached with care, openness, and respect, recognising that for some chemsex is a meaningful space, a place for connection, intimacy, socialising while also acknowledging the risks, harms, and challenges associated with it. The better our awareness and understanding of chemsex, the better we can support those who are looking for help.
During my studies chemsex became the main focus of my research. I completed both my minor dissertation and my Master’s dissertation on the topic with a strong emphasis on how we can best support those looking for help within therapeutic settings.
Alongside my academic work, I facilitate the chemsex support group at Soilse. I have also delivered presentations to multiple rehabilitation centres in the public sector and private sector.
I offer chemsex focused presentation sessions for those looking to deepen their understanding of chemsex and cultural competence when working with those looking for support with chemsex. I offer this as a standalone service for addiction services, training programmes, rehabilitation centres, and psychotherapeutic and counselling services. My approach is practical, compassionate, and clinically informed, and my aim is to help professionals build a deeper understanding in this area, so we can meet those looking for support with better understanding.
